OUR MISSION

East New York Prep offers a high-quality, tuition-free alternative to the typically underperforming public elementary schools in East New York and Brownsville. Our mission at East New York Prep is to address the specific needs and challenges of children in East New York to ensure students achieve or exceed grade-level mastery of academic content, knowledge and skills. We provide a rigorous and NYS Standards aligned curriculum, disciplined environment, and supportive community where elementary school students are academically and socially prepared to excel in demanding college preparatory high schools.

OUR VISION

Elementary school is the bedrock upon which all further education rests. Our rigorous academic program follows a sequential curriculum in which children learn, master, and eventually apply foundational skills in a sequence that logically builds from the most basic elementary content to increasingly higher-order conceptual thinking.

From this vision comes East New York Prep.
East New York Prep is a tuition-free public elementary charter school serving the East New York and Brownsville community. East New York is a community where more than 70% of children are born into poverty, where fewer than 40% graduate from high school and where fewer than 10% go on to college. In East New York nearly 80% of public school students read below grade level. East New York is also a community that is home to more Million Dollar Blocks than any other community in New York City.

A Million Dollar Block is a block with enough imprisoned residents that one million dollars or more is being spent to incarcerate residents from the block. East New York is also home to the related "five million dollar block."  East New York Prep was founded on the fundamental belief that government resources must be spent to provide the children of East New York with a high caliber education that will allow them to garner millions of dollars in college scholarships.

To accomplish this community transformation, East New York Prep provides an academically rigorous, intensively supportive, values-driven school environment to ensure that our students reach their fullest potential. In a community that has served as a direct pipeline to incarceration for thousands of young people, we have created a different track--one to college and careers.
